Description
Ganoderma Lucidum is commonly known as Ling Zhi in Chinese, or red reishi in Japanese, and is a herbal mushroom known to have miraculous health benefits.
It is one of the oldest herbs in the world and is nicknamed “The King Of Herbs”. This mushroom was treated as a delicacy in ancient times by the royal and noble classes because of its healing powers and was said to bring about longer life and youth.
The Ganoderma mushroom itself contains triterpenes and polysaccharides which help to strengthen the body’s immune system. They are also known to cure an entire host of diseases such as diabetes, allergies and even cancer. It is for these amazing medicinal abilities that Ganoderma Lucidum has become a very popular choice in recent times in both Eastern and Western medicine.
Uses
Ganoderma lucidum is primarily composed of complex carbohydrates called watersoluble polysaccharides, triterpeniods, proteins and amino acids. Researchers have
identified that water-soluble polysaccharides are the most active element found in Ganoderma lucidum that have anti-tumour, immune modulating (regulates and fine tunes the immune system) and blood pressure lowering effects.
Another major active ingredient found in Ganoderma lucidum are triterpenes, called ganoderic acids. Preliminary studies indicated that ganoderic acids help alleviate common allergies by inhibiting histamine release, improve oxygen utilization and improve liver functions. Triterpenes are bitter in taste and the level of the triterpene content contained in a product can be determined by the bitterness.
Ganoderma lucidum is non-toxic and can be taken daily without producing any side effects. Regular consumption of ganoderma lucidum can enhance our body’s immune system and improve blood circulation, thus improving better health conditions.
Generally, Ganoderma lucidum is recommended as an adaptogen, immune modulator, and a general tonic. Ganoderma lucidum is also used to help treat anxiety, high blood pressure, hepatitis, bronchitis, insomnia, and asthma.
